Homestar Runner

My new favorite quote from Homestar Runner:

Homsar: "I'm a human wedgie!"

Scarves and Twill Pants

Sunday was an interesting day at church. Before I go into it, let me give a public service message:

Folks, PLEASE don't put dead animals/meat in or on people's vehicles or around their place of residence. It's not funny, it smells, and you could risk giving your beloved friend food poisoning or worse. There are better ways to have fun than to do that to your friends. Thanks!

(this public service announcement bought to you by Random Acts of Randomness)

Okay, done. I think I found some clothes I want to buy at Wal-Mart. Twill pants.

KIDDING! I did find some khakis I want to buy, though. As well as some tops. Misti and Mel G. are gonna take me shopping in a couple of weeks or so, but I suspect I am on my own for the Wal-Mart stuff, seeing as some people see Wal-Mart as purgatory.

In other news, we played Trivial Pursuit DVD last night. I actually knew the answer to two of the questions. (Once it didn't matter though...it was the other team's question.) Brian Mays kept quacking at me, though.

I finally found a name for my pink scarf, though. It is: Sir Heather Omarosa Contessa Donaldina Leona Dorothy. (I think I may have left out a few names.) They had named Booker's scarf Ducky, and Mel G's scarf Ivana, so I figured my scarf needed a name.

My Journey

Well, I guess a lot of you are wondering what was going on with the "Situation" post from a week and a half ago.

Here was the story: On Tuesday, January 18, I was informed that a gentleman that visits the library quite a bit was diagnosed with active tuberculosis. As a result, every staff member at the library had to be tested.

Of course, I was frightened. At that point in time, there were so many unknowns. Would I have to quit Sonic? Would my test come out positive? I was very scared.

January 25, 2005: Today is my TB test. I get the test today, and I get the results on Friday. I'm still kind of nervous about it, but I have faith that God will see this through and I won't have to quit either of my jobs.

(later)I just got back from taking the test. It didn't hurt anywhere near as bad as I thought it would. It did bleed a little bit, though. Right now I can't really tell anything, but I did detect a small bruise where the needle went in. It shouldn't be any big deal, though. At least, I hope not. :-)

January 28: I just got my test results back, and they were negative! Yay!

Snow!

Well, I wake up this morning, and I find that it has snowed an inch or two overnight! I'm amazed...I thought it wasn't supposed to snow south of about the Logan-Oklahoma County line.

It also makes me sad, because if it continues to snow, and the roads are bad, I won't be able to go to church on Sunday. That makes me sad, because Misti is gonna share her testimony, and I really wanted to hear it. Sigh. So pray for no more snow. Or call Gary England.

One Sad Night in January

It was a cold Saturday night, the last one in January 2001; my senior year in college. I had been cleaning my dorm room that whole evening, preparing for a possible roommate to move in.

After four hours of folding clothes and sorting through drawers, I figured it was time for a break. So I wandered down to the lobby of West Hall at UCO. It was a little before 10:30.

I had already broken my New Year's resolution to eat healthy, but I figured it was never too late to start. To that end, I purchased a package of peanut butter crackers. I then noticed a knot of people waiting for a ride in the television area. For some reason, I wanted to go and watch MTV for awhile (I had unsubscribed to cable a few months before) before returning to cleaning. So I walked toward the couch.

There on the screen was a picture of a small turbo-prop plane. Below the picture were the words, "OSU Plane Crashes."

"Wha....?" I thought. I watched with increasing interest as the stunned news anchors relayed what they knew: About ten people were thought to be dead in a plane crash. The plane went down in Colorado about 6:40 our time. Mostly media folks, but a couple of players may have been on board. The sportscaster named a list of players that had been accounted for. Then someone mentioned that they thought that Bill Teegins (a beloved sportscaster, for those of my readers outside OKC) may have died in the crash.

"What!" I finished the thought that time.

And then I understood why the Channel 9 anchors looked so stunned.

And I ran upstairs back to my room. And turned on the TV.

The next hour passed by slowly, as I waited for the official statement by the OSU athletic director. I prayed against prayer that I was dreaming, that there was some mistake, that the plane would be touching down shortly. Yes, I cried a little bit.

Finally, the director released a statement. Sadly, Bill Teegins was killed. As were two players, Nate Fleming and Daniel Lawson; and Jared Weiberg, a guy who grew up with Lori and Amy (I found this out later).

The hardest part was watching Kelly Ogle and Jennifer Reynolds weep on camera. I have very seldom seen newspeople cry on camera. I saw it during the Oklahoma City bombing a few years before, and 9/11 a few months later. Of course, I started bawling at that point.

The next day was the Super Bowl. Before the game, Channel 9 (who aired the game that year) gave a tribute to Bill Teegins. Of course, I cried again.

How does such an event affect our lives so? Maybe because I felt like I knew him. Even though I never met the guy, I felt like he was part of my family.

Now I understood why so many people were brokenhearted when Princess Diana, Frank Sinatra, JFK, and other people died.

It's hard to believe it's been exactly four years since then. I feel like I can still remember it like it is just taking place. Hopefully, I will never forget.

God bless.

[Edited to add:] If you have time, please go visit Matt Nichols' blog (under "Matt" in the sidebar). He has a touching story about the plane crash as well.

Nothing Much to Blog

If I can find anything fascinating to blog about today, I will let you know. Ideas?

My life has been relatively dull. Tonight I work at Sonic. At least I will be car-hopping. Yay!!!!

I did see an interesting blog thread about "indie kids". I can't really make any comment, since I am as mainstream as they come. Everything somewhat "indie" that I enjoy, I heard about from friends who liked those things. Ah, well. I guess I will say "baaaaaa" and move on.

A Perfect Meal

Usually, Monday nights are fairly dull. This Monday, though, I saw things in a different light.

I lay in my bed, reading a book on beautiful living, wearing my pajamas. Suddenly, the smell of charcoaled burgers wafted into my bedroom. My mouth began to water as I pictured a thick, juicy burger with thick slices of onion.

I got out of bed, and decided to do something that I hadn't done in ages: dress up for dinner. Okay, so I just put on a sweater and jeans. It was still considerably dressier than my PJ's. I wore my favorite red, yellow, and brown-striped sweater. I brushed through my hair shortly before going downstairs to dinner.

As I expected, the burgers were perfectly juicy, topped with pepper and slices of onion. We had simple potato chips and peanut butter "nutty" bars with it.

Funny how a simple meal could taste so wonderful. It just goes to show that you don't have to have champagne and caviar to enjoy a great meal.

Boomer Sooner

This is the blog entry where I simultaneously congratulate the OU Sooners on their victory, and offer Matt N. and Pazzo my condolences.

Best part of the night: when ESPN showed the second-stringers on the bench, leaning back and forth as one guy prepared to make a free-throw.

Cool stuff.

It's A Beautiful Life

Yesterday, after church, I treated myself to a wonderful lunch at Olive Garden with six good friends. I went on the thought that it is a good thing to indulge yourself once in awhile. And I did.

Olive Garden is one of my favorite restaurants. I rarely go because it is somewhat expensive, but the food is wonderful. I had fettucine Alfredo, salad with vinegar dressing and fresh Parmesian cheese, and breadsticks. Yum.

During lunch, Brian Booker told us about his trip to Hawaii. We also told about things we wanted to do before we die. I told them I wanted to be a bridesmaid, travel to France, and get married and have two kids. Brian Mays is determined that Brian Booker is gonna have triplet girls. (Of course, he is also determined that I was riding my break when I was ACTUALLY going 5 miles an hour over the speed limit, but that's neither here nor there.)

Last night, me, G and Misti talked about what kind of wedding we would like. I have been thinking about the subject of weddings a lot the last few days, for some reason. I spent the afternoon yesterday looking at bridal magazines. (Incidentally: in one of them, there was a lady with a big Rose of Sharon arrangement on her head! No kidding!) Here's what I have decided:

1.) My colors are gonna be deep, clear blue and white, with touches of lavender
2.) I want my bridesmaids to wear blue dresses and carry white roses. I either want their hair up, or in long curls.
3.) Not sure where I want my wedding. I don't want a destination wedding, because I don't want my wedding guests to take out a second mortgage to attend. I was thinking maybe Cole's Garden.

That's all I have decided for now. Now all I need's a groom. :-)

In other news, I have decided I am officially going on the rappelling trip. Now whether or not I actually go rappelling is something I haven't decided yet. I am somewhat afraid to go.

Caught Up In You

Last night I worked at Sonic for the second consecutive night. I learned something every day there. Last night, I learned it is a crime punishable by death, or at least scorn, if you take someone else's cleaning rag for any reason. Blah.

Well, since I have nothing else fascinating to post (at least for the moment), I will post the song that I want my future husband to sing to me on my wedding day. It's kind of an old song, but still cool.

38 Special ~ Caught Up In You

I never knew there'd come a day
When I'd be sayin to you
Don't let this good love slip away.
Now that we know that it's true
Don't..don't you know the kind of man I am
No, said I'd never fall in love again
But it's real and the feeling comes shining through

So caught up in you, little girl
And I never did suspect a thing
So caught up in you, little girl
That I never wanted to get myself free
And baby it's true
You're the one who caught me
baby you taught me how good it could be

It took so long to change my mind
I thought that love was a game
I played around enough to find
No two ever are the same
You made me realize the love I missed
So Hot!
Love I couldn't resist
When it's right the light just keeps coming through

So caught up in you, little girl
You're the one that's got me down on my knees
So caught up in you, little girl
That I never wanna get myself free
And baby it's true
You're the one who caught me
Boy you taught me how good it could be

Fill your days and your night
No need to ever ask me twice
Oh no, whenever you want me
And if ever comes a day
When you should turn and walk away
Oh no, I can't live without you
So caught up in you.....yeah yeah yeah

And if ever comes a day
When you should turn and walk away
Oh no, I can't live without you

So caught up in you, little girl
You're the one that's got me down on my knees
So caught up in you, little girl
That I never wanna get myself free
And baby it's true
You're the one who caught me
Boy you taught me how good it could be

Little girl
You're the one that's got me down on my knees
So caught up in you, little girl
That I never wanna get myself free
And baby it's true
You're the one who caught me
Boy you taught me how good it could be

The Diaper Club

Here's something interesting that I heard on Jack and Ron today.

Apparently, the newest fad on college campuses is....

DIAPERS!

There is one school in Pennsylvania that has a Diaper Club, which the members wear diapers, bibs, training pants, and other "babyish" stuff.

Now, I have heard of people wearing pacifiers and stuff, but diapers?

Different strokes, I guess...

Updatelet

This will have to be a short entry, I'm afraid.

Not much happened yesterday. I worked at both Sonic and the library. Today I am going to a legislative luncheon that the library is putting on. I also work at Sonic tonight.

That's about it.

Situation

Well, I asked for new and exciting. Careful what you wish for. Go figure.

To quote the first Left Behind book, "I have a situation I don't even want to talk about."

I can't say too much right now, because it could be nothing. But it could mean my livelihood.

Just pray for me like you have never prayed before. I'll talk more about it when I can.

Thank you.

My Fascinating Life. NOT.

Nothing new and exciting to post, I'm afraid. Today was kind of an off day for me. I slept for 12 hours straight (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.), then spent the rest of the day lolling around.

I did go to the library to invite a senator to the Legislative Luncheon on Friday. I called his secretary and told her about it. Alas, he can't attend. Ah, well.

And I filled my power-steering fluid for the first time ever (by myself...I have had it filled before). See, my steering wheel was making this groaning noise, which is generally considered Not a Good Thing. So I went to O'Riley's, where they said I was low on power steering fluid in my car. Good thing I caught that...if my steering went out, it would have cost me easily a thousand dollars to repair. I filled her up, and now she is doing fine.

That's about it. Fascinating, huh?

Billie Jean

I have gone AWOL for a few days, so I thought I would go ahead and post.

Friday night I went over to Sherry's house to watch The Princess Diaries. I, of course, made a halo instead of a tiara. I made it of tinsel from my Christmas tree three years ago. (See Mom, I told you I would use that stuff again!) Everyone loved it. Anyway, I got to see about 30 minutes of the second Princess Diaries movie. It's pretty good. I think I am gonna be one of those curtsy-ing maids for Halloween next year.

Saturday I worked at Sonic, then I went with Mel G, Brian, Misti, Leigh Ann, and Brian Craven to see In Good Company. It was a cute movie. I thought the older guy looked a bit like Harrison Ford. And the younger guy was just hot. I mean, hott. I still like Napoleon Dynamite better, though. :-)

Sunday Ellen showed us ultrasound pictures of her new baby girl. She and Jeff also had a whole bunch of pictures of their wedding. I think I am gonna order some pictures. There were a few that I didn't get really well with my own camera.

Sunday night we all went to Boomerang, where I ate their buffalo chicken tenders. Mmmmm...they were really good. Especially with ranch dressing. After that, some of us went to Mel G and Misti's to play COMPETITIVE dance-pad. Fun times.

Misti had obtained a Michael Jackson CD, and she, G and I did the Electric Slide to Thriller. I told them (and Brian Mays) that I had once done an interpretive dance to Billie Jean when I was in the 4th grade. They didn't believe me. But I did. (Okay, so it wasn't so much an interpretive dance as it was an impromptu dance, but...) Well, she played Billie Jean, and we danced some more.

Blogger Back Up

Yay! Blogger's back up again...for now!

I couldn't post or edit there for awhile.

Progressive

Many of you might know this, but yesterday I acquired another piece of 1980's memorabilia. The library had a NKOTB book that they were trying to get rid of. So, of course, I was more than happy to take it off their hands.

I remember I had a copy of that book when I was, like, 10. Of course, when I decided that they weren't cool anymore, I got rid of it. Sigh. I had a shirt with Jordan on it that I could probably sell on Ebay now for a hundred dollars. Oh, nostalgia!

I remember when I went to my cousin's house a long time ago. She told me she was into Depeche Mode and all those "progressive" (the late 80's term for "alternative"? I'm not sure on that genre of music) bands. Of course, since I wanted to be like her, I pretended to like that kind of music myself. Of course, my farce was found out, and I was officially labeled a teeny-bopper for life. Ah, well. The funny thing is, I hear those progressive songs on the radio now, and I kind of like them. (Hi, Scott!) Of course, I like almost any kind of music that doesn't involve a cowboy hat and a pouch of Skoal.

Babies

Okay, so I already knew about Jeff and Ellen's baby, but I didn't want to post about it until it was pretty much public. So, congratulations to both! I told them they need to name her Reagan Dorothy Jr., but I doubt they will. :-) Hopefully they will premier their blog soon so I can post it with my favorites. I will let you know.

I am surprised to hear about Shannon and Kevin's baby. Congratulations to them too!

1980's Stuff

Mel G. is gonna be so jealous when she finds out what I acquired this morning...

My boss had put out a bag full of cosmetic stuff that she was trying to get rid of. I poked through it and found....a bottle of White Rain conditioner from 1989!

Of course, I had to take it. I couldn't resist. I figure the conditioner isn't any good anymore, so I will probably end up emptying the bottle and putting something else in there.

Still, it's pretty cool, is it not?

Still Sick?!!!

I still feel like bonified CRAP today. I am sick of taking medicine just to function. Sigh. At least I don't have that achiness anymore. At least, not so much.

I work at Sonic from 11 till whenever. I hate this new scheduling thing...come in at a certain time, leave when WE tell you to. Blah. At least under the old schedule, you KNEW when you were going home. Sigh.

The Promise

One of the songs from Napoleon Dynamite.

The Promise - When in Rome
If you need a friend, don't look to a stranger,
You know in the end, I'll always be there.
But when you're in doubt, and when you're in danger,
Take a look all around, and I'll be there.

I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say.
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be.
But if you'll wait around awhile, I'll make you fall for me,
I promise you, I promise you I will.

When your day is through, and so is your temper,
You know what to do, I'm gonna always be there.
Sometimes if I shout, it's not what's intended.
These words just come out, with no gripe to bear.

I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say.
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be.
But if you'll wait around awhile, I'll make you fall for me,
I promise you, I promise you...

I'm sorry, but I'm just thinking of the right words to say.
I know they don't sound the way I planned them to be.
And if I had to walk the world, I'd make you fall for me,
I promise you, I promise you I will.

I gotta tell you, I gotta tell you, I need to tell you...

I will. I will.

Featured Website of the Day

Bag, Borrow or Steal

This is a very interesting website. I heard about it on Phil and Drew this afternoon. This website is like NetFlix for handbags, and works the same way. You just borrow a handbag, then return it if you want another one. All for a modest fee of $50 to $100 a month!

It got me to thinking...what is the appeal of certain brands of handbags? I mean, I see Louis Vatton knock-offs in every store I go to. What's the difference between those and the real thing (other than about $775)? And who really cares, anyway?

I have priced Louis Vatton purses for upwards of $500. Frankly, I can't see myself spending that kind of money for anything smaller than a computer unless said item was made of gold and diamonds.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

Just Another Manic Weekend (Oh, whoa...)

I added two new blogs to my sidebar. One is Matt Nichols' personal blog. The other one is one that he and Stephanie created for their wedding. Enjoy!

This weekend was exciting. I helped Mel G. move to Misti's house. Friday evening me, G, Rich and Chris went to Denny's to eat, and we saw this guy Marlon Brown, who Rich said played professional basketball. Anyway, he was CRAZY! His date comes in, and he hollers, "That's my baby's momma!" It was funny. Well, I told him my name was Amber and that I had gotten married in Vegas and had it annuled. (Hmmm...I should have told him my name was Britney.) The conversation went on from there.

Saturday G and I were cleaning under her couch when I said, "Uh, G, there's an eye under your couch..." It's true! There was this HUGE googly eye under her couch. I kept it, of course. I put it in my treasure box when I got home. Awwwwww....

Well, a whole bunch of people came to help her move. It was really cool. Afterwords we ate lunch, then some of the people went to play Ultimate Frisbee. I went with Mel G. and a contingent of guys to move her washer and dryer. The guys had the hardest time moving that thing. First, they couldn't get it out of the wall. Finally, Mr. Handy Phillip got it out.

Later that evening, Mel G., Chris and I watched Napoleon Dynamite. Funniest. Movie. EVER. I loved the scene where Napoleon was on stage and just starts dancing. I also loved the Happy Hands scene, where they made the sign for flower. (Now I know TWO signs!) The funny thing is, the dance scene reminded me of every high-school dance I had ever attended. (Now, the faster songs we would bust out and dance to. The slow songs we would pick a partner and dance awkwardly with them.) I love me some Pedro, though. I like his Ashton Kutcher wig.

It's Called a Remote Control

This is absolutely amazing.

Some guy is suing NBC for an episode of Fear Factor where he blew cookies after seeing people eat liquified rats.

Here's another article about it.

My question is: The guy is a paralegal. And he's giving a handwritten lawsuit?!

GIVE ME A BREAK!

Hopefully, this lawsuit will be seen for the schlarkey it is. The fact that the guy will only accept paid interviews suggests that he's only after money.

Still Sick

I'm still not feeling great.

I came down with a cold on Sunday, and have been sick ever since. I have been trying to wean myself off of NyQuil and such medicines...and last night, I barely slept. At one point, I woke up with a dry, hacking cough. I had to drink two glasses of water to control it. I've been drinking water like it's going out of style. Today I went to the store and got some store-brand cough syrup. Maybe that will help.

The worst part is the aching. I have been having this aching feeling in my arms and back every day. I feel like a good massage would help right now.

To Do List For Today

1.) Buy flowers for Bob Stoops, Jason White, and Ashlee Simpson
2.) Buy a heavy-duty ice scraper for my vehicle
3.) Cut off my nose
4.) Consider calling in sick from work before finally caving in to the ice
5.) Drive 15 miles an hour in a 45, get honked at, almost get rammed into twice by people going too fast
6.) Arrive at work wondering why I bothered
7.) Sit at desk with a faint voice and an occasional hacking cough
8.) Die
9.) Leave work early
10.) Go to grocery store for reasons you can't figure out
11.) Go to gas station and buy 2 dollars in gas
12.) Sit in car and let hands warm back up for 30 minutes
13.) Arrive home and go straight to bed
14.) Wake up thinking it's the next morning
15.) Oh wait...it's only 7 THAT evening

Perspective

So I was sitting here at my computer at work, bummed about the game yesterday. Then Brian Mays emails me a story from the Oklahoman.

I don't want to post the link, since it will probably expire in a few days. But it basically talked about this guy named Brian Stewart. He is Jason White's friend from high school. And now he's battling brain cancer.

He made it to Miami to attend the game and see Jason White play his last game. But he suffered a brain hemmorhage while in Miami. And now he's in an emergency room fighting for his life.

It puts a whole new perspective on things.

So if you have time, please pray for Brian Stewart.

If you want to read the story, it's on the Oklahoman website.

.....

I have no comment about the travesty that was called the Orange Bowl.

I will say this: I will never bow down to Matt Leinart. Ever.

The end.

First Post of 2005

What an eventful weekend. It was just...wow.

On Friday evening, a whole bunch of us (Mel G., Leigh Ann, Erin, Brian Mays, Misti, Rich, his friend Anthony, and myself) went downtown for Opening Night. I wore my new pink scarf that I got for Christmas. We toured the Botanical Gardens, where they had people playing music. One time, I broke out and square-danced to one of the songs. After that, we all went and met Kelly, Phillip and Laura on the stairs of the Kerr McGee building. There we watched the ball rise and rung in the new year.

After that, we all went to Madison's to eat. I had a huge canker sore that was giving me Hades. I ate half of a chicken sandwich and some French fries.

Then me, Mel G. and Rich drove to Guthrie and back. Whilst I was there, I got some Ambesol for my canker sore. It felt a lot better after that.

Saturday I played a game of laser tag with everyone. Brian Mays and Rich, of course, won.

After that, I went home. My grandparents and aunt and uncle came over, too. We had dinner and then watched the Kansas-Georgia Tech game. Of course, Kansas won the game in overtime. Then we watched the Rose Bowl. Texas beat Michigan on a field goal the last play of the game.

Sunday night we had a party for Brian Booker. He is going to Houston for six months. Misti and G had a cake for him with Star Wars figurines and a Wal-Mart gift card for him. That was hilarious.

Well...we were all talking in the living room, when a lady came to the door. She informed me that she had hit my car. Of course, I panicked slightly. But it wasn't too bad, though. The casing on my turn signal was broken, and there was some paint scratches. I;m gonna get an estimate at the body shop today.
